A nonprofit community-services organization ran its Google Ad Grant to a common weekly spend of $1,500, generating 100+ program registrations per week at a cost per conversion near $10 and a return on ad spend over 2,000%.
The diagnosis
The organization had an opportunity to grow registrations for its membership, programs, and camps, but the standard trap with Ad Grant accounts is optimizing for visibility rather than impact using broad coverage that looks good in a report but doesn’t move actual registrations.
The strategic shift
We built the account around maximum use of the available Ad Grant budget toward action-oriented, registration-focused search terms, while still keeping some lighter coverage for less transactional queries. The goal was impact, not just impressions.
What we changed
Concentrated the largest share of budget on the highest-intent, most registration-focused search terms - membership, programs, camps.
Kept a smaller layer of coverage on lower-intent terms rather than abandoning them entirely.
Structured the media plan to push activity toward the bottom of the funnel and fully use the available Ad Grant spend.
How to know if this is you
If your Ad Grant account is spending its full monthly allotment but you can’t point to what that spend directly produced in registrations or sign-ups, the structure is likely optimized for coverage instead of outcomes. Reallocating budget toward action-oriented terms usually moves the needle faster than expanding reach further.
